COOKEVILLE— All Aboard! The trains are coming to Cookeville!
Two train excursions from the Tennessee Central Railway Museum in Nashville will be making their way to Cookeville on Saturday, October 17, and Saturday, October 24, with each weekend bringing an estimated 400 passengers to the streets of Cookeville’s Historic WestSide to eat and shop for two hours. Passengers will be able to enjoy the fall foliage during the peak of the season throughout their trip from Nashville.
Excursion trips from Cookeville to Algood will also take place for those looking for a shorter adventure. The train will begin boarding at the Cookeville Depot Museum at 11:30 a.m. and will carry passengers along the rails to Algood, returning to Cookeville. Passengers are encouraged to arrive at 11 a.m. to keep the train on-time.
“We’re excited to welcome visitors from Nashville to Cookeville each weekend during the train excursions. Although they’re only here for a short time, we know they’ll experience some of Cookeville’s best dining, shopping and attractions on the WestSide that will make them want to come back,” said Zach Ledbetter, Cookeville-Putnam County Convention and Visitors Bureau Manager.
“Our trip to Algood and back is a great, quick get-away for our local residents as well, especially for those who have never ridden on a passenger train or those with children that don’t enjoy sitting for long periods of time,” added Ledbetter.
This year actors from the Cookeville Depot Museum’s event “Cookeville History Decades” will be involved on the ride to Algood and back. Actors will portray individuals living throughout Cookeville’s history and share brief descriptions of their lives.
Advanced ticket purchase is suggested as the train fills up quickly. Tickets for the Algood excursions may be purchased at the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce located at One West First Street in Cookeville. Tickets cost $30 for dome seats, $15 for coach seats for ages 13 and up, $10 for ages 4 to 12, and ages 3 and under ride free in an adult’s lap.
